Der Louvre in Paris ist ein früherer französischer Königspalast und bildete zusammen mit dem zerstörten Palais des Tuileries das Pariser Stadtschloss. Das Gebäude liegt im Zentrum von Paris zwischen dem rechten Seineufer und der Rue de Rivoli. Sein Innenhof liegt auf der historischen Achse, deren Ausgangspunkt der Glockenturm der Kirche St-Germain-l’Auxerrois ist und die sich über die gläsernen Eingangspyramide des Louvres bis zur Grande Arche in La Défense erstreckt; ihr Kernstück wird von den Champs-Élysées gebildet.

Der Louvre beherbergt heute größtenteils das Museum des Louvre, das mit etwa zehn Millionen Besuchern im Jahr 2012 das meistbesuchte und, gemessen an der Ausstellungsfläche, das drittgrößte Museum der Welt ist. Daneben birgt der Nordflügel die Institution Les Arts Décoratifs mit ihren drei Museen Musée des Arts décoratifs, Musée de la Mode et du Textile, Musée de la Publicité und der Bibliothèque des Arts décoratifs.
